New Manga!

So recently i've become to love Manga, thanks to Kuroshitsuji, that i blasted through in a few days. It made me want to read more and more. Here is a small list of what i'm reading at the moment.

Apocalypse no Toride

One word: Zombies! As a huge fan of anything zombie i find this manga rather appealing. It's quite new, this year, and so far only 7 chapters long.

Frightening, compelling with a whole lot of suspense  You don't wanna give this a miss. Not recommended for our younger audience though..

Deadman Wonderland

Being a fan of the Anime i thought i would continue with reading this. The story goes on in the prison of Deadman Wonderland. Will Ganta and Shiro ever escape?

Over 50 chapters and counting. Gory as ever and still just as good.

Gantz

If you know me you will know this is one of my favourite Animes. I decided to read this because the Anime just stops, it never really did have a proper ending.

The Manga continues with more aliens, more tense bits than ever before and with around 350 chapters, you can't stop reading it.

Just one word of advice, this Manga has lots of blood and violence, it's rather disturbing so if you don't like that stuff just give it a miss.

Psyren

Now this one i bought the first volume for my last birthday, not really knowing what it was or if it was good. I don't regret that at all, in fact it was one of the best buys i ever made with Manga.

The story is definitely unique and from what i've seen extremely popular. I'm not surprised! It's well worth a read no matter what genre of Manga you prefer.

145 chapters.

Blame!

This Manga is rather strange but good nonetheless.

In a post-apocalyptic world way way underground. Fighting with cyborgs and strange creatures. With not much dialogue too, it's still amazing.

The scenery, the eeriness... just creepy. But i still will recommend this if you want a change of pace.

Finished with 66 chapters.

Kuroshitsuji

Last of all my number one favourite, Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler). I seriously can't get enough of this Manga, just like its Anime counterpart it's amazing!

The only downside i have with it is that Grell should be in it a bit more *_*.

Still this is in my opinion the best Manga/Anime out there. 76 chapters and counting! :3

Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) S2

my Grell <3

After finishing the first season i rushed to the second! Also watching all the OVAs, both the musicals (amazing by the way) and starting the manga! I seriously can't get enough of this Anime.
It is now my one and only number one...

The story is set not long after the events of season one, which i shouldn't tell you in case you have yet to see it.

Black butler info here.

With the same lovable characters, especially my Grell *fangirl drool*, and a couple new, it is just enjoyable, amazing in fact  It's hard to come across Anime nowadays being this good.

I do suggest watching the OVAs and musicals too, believe me everything to do with Kuroshitsuji is amazing... i do hope they make more seasons and hopefully some movies. :3

Again... i fricking love this Anime... don't miss it, it's worth every second of your time! :)

*droool*....

Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) S1

Took me a little while to get into this but i absolutely loved it after that.

The Black Butler, Sebastian, a demon and master to the Earl Ciel Phantomhive. Set in olden England, Ciel and Sebastian solve crimes, mostly the supernatural ones. Running into all sorts of people from Shinigamis (Death Gods) to Ghosts.

I won't spoil the story for you, all i can say is watch it for yourself and you won't be disappointed. :3

All the characters have lovable personalities. My favourite being Grell (hot in a strange way :3) and of course Sebastian himself...

Some series do deserve to go on and this is one of them. On to season 2 i go!

Why are you still here??... go watch!

Bakuman (Season 1)

This series is totally fantastic! The story gripped me from the very first episode and after having a huge marathon today of about 10 episodes i managed to finish it.

The story is about two young boys who want to become mangakas (manga writers). Mashiro, who has been drawing ever since he was little, with his uncle who was a mangaka, and Takaki, boy genius and story writer.

Mashiro, who has a crush on Azuki, promises her that if they become famous and produce an anime he will marry her and so starts their dream. More here.

Everything is brilliant about this anime, the art, the story, the characters... i've already got season 2 waiting for me and i can't wait to see what happens next.

I think anyone at any age will enjoy this. It may be popular but it's also extremely well written (if only all manga/anime was like that >.<). You will begin to understand the process of a manga and how Shounen Jump in particular works. All in all interesting!!! :3

Soul Eater

Another of my favourites. It's just amazing. Couldn't stop watching it!

Soul Eater is set at Death Weapon Meister Academy Shinigami Buki Shokunin Senmon Gakkō (Shibusen) for short—located in the fictional Death City in NevadaUnited States. The school is run by Shinigami, also known as Death, as a training facility for humans with the ability to transform into weapons, as well as the wielders of those weapons, called meisters.

Attending this school are meister Maka Albarn and her scythe partner Soul Eater; ninja Black Star and his partner Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, who can turn into a variety of different weapons such as a kusarigamashuriken, and ninjatō; and Shinigami's son Death the Kid and his pistol partners Liz and Patty Thompson. The goal of the school's meister students is to have their weapons defeat and absorb the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, which will dramatically increase the power of the given weapon and turn them into "death scythes", weapons capable of being used by Shinigami. More.

It really is the best of the 'popular' ones. The characters, the story, everything will make you love it. It's all you really need in an anime! I recommend this for all ages and believe me you will enjoy it much more than Naruto or One Piece.  10/10

Baka!

Excalibur - Soul Eater
For the past week now, i have been watching a lot of different Anime. Since i'm not going to finish them any time soon, being they're of course quite long, i thought i would share some thoughts.

Also i was thinking that if i had 100 minions (members) on this blog i might do something special. But that's still looking grim for the time being.

Moving on...

Apart from trying to keep up with Anime that i've long since started [Full metal Alchemist, GTO, Blood+, Ao No Exorcist etc.] i've added a few more to my ever growing list!

Guilty Crown

Only watched a few episodes so far but it does seem intriguing.

On Christmas Eve, 2029, the unidentified "Apocalypse Virus" spreads and plunges Japan into a state of emergency in a chaos known as the "Lost Christmas" incident. An international organization known as the GHQ intervenes with martial law and restores order to Japan at the cost of its independence.

Soul Eater

Almost finished this one. Forget One Piece and Naruto, this one is far superior. The story is amazing the characters are loveable and you will always be on the edge of your seat either with laughter or desperation.

Soul Eater is set at Death Weapon Meister Academy (Shibusen) for short—located in the fictional Death City. The school is run by Shinigami, also known as Death, as a training facility for humans with the ability to transform into weapons, as well as the wielders of those weapons, called technicians.

Last of all an Anime that i underrated and i hate myself for that. But after giving it a go again it seriously surprised me. Word of advice: don't give up so easily!

Hellsing Ultimate

After watching a few more episodes i realised that i wasn't wasting my time. This is probably the best horror Anime out there. Vampires vs Nazis vs Priests = pure epicness, and of course Alucard being sexy and awesome as ever!

It might not be as brilliant as the Manga or the earlier series but still all i can say is wow...

Black Jack

Black Jack, worlds most famous unlicensed doctor and the best surgeon around. Imagine House but a hell of a lot better. This OVA is one of my all time favourites!

The original Manga is dated back from 1973. Since then three different Anime series and a few movies, not to mention there's a new manga in process.

First off i started with the OVA (1993) which is 12 episodes long, the last two only recently released.

Black Jack and his assistant Pinoko fly all over the world operating on patients with strange diseases that most doctors would have no clue. Each episode is its own story. The last two episodes are especially good with updated animation and colour and the story behind Pinoko.

Always on the edge of your seat, Black Jack will never cease to amaze you. This is one Anime you cannot miss!

Accel World

I waited so long for this one and believe me it was worth the wait!

In the year 2046, Neuro-synchronization, a technology system that allows humans to manipulate their five senses, has become widespread to the point where people can access the Internet and enter virtual worlds through a device known as a Neuro-Linker. Haruyuki "Haru" Arita is a short, fat boy who has low-self esteem due to constant bullying. To escape the torment of real life, he logs in to the school's virtual world network where he plays squash alone and always gets the highest score.

One day, Haru attracts the attention of the Student Council Vice-President "Kuroyukihime" who offers him Brain Burst, a secret program which allows a person to make time appear to stand still in their surroundings by "accelerating" their brainwaves in the real world. More here.

As a big fan of gaming the story just blew me away. Amazing art, music.. the lot and so unique too. It can get a little frustrating at times but as a whole this is easily overlooked. I would recommend this to all Anime watchers no matter their age or likes. Trust me you wont regret it!

Appleseed

I was a little disappointed with this movie. I had high expectations for it. But this is my opinion. You don't have to listen to me :).

Deunan, a highly skilled soldier and survivor of the Global war, gets rescued and sent to Olympus, mankinds utopia. The city is filled with humans and Bioroids (a genetically enhanced, part clone, human).
She runs into her former lover now a cyborg and they end up having to save the city from an evil unknown.

Compelling story, or so i thought. The art style, rather more of a CG than japanese Anime, still not bad, and of course it has it's Mecha side. More here.

One major point i guess is that it has a manga (which is meant to be read prior) and some series adaptions, which all in all add up giving it a better meaning and i'm sure the movie had to be compressed a bit loosing some key pointers.

I gave it a 7/10, which is being generous. Main thing is... it was enjoyable.

Halloween Special!

Kikoushi Enma (Demon Prince Enma)

This Anime is quite brilliant, perfect for that Halloween evening!

Demon Prince Enma is rather like an exorcist, destroying and sending demons back to where they belong. Accompanied by his assistants Yuki, Kapaeru and talking hat Chapeauji, Enma goes after the damned.

It's defiantly unique and well made and with only 4 episodes (sadly) it does make a huge impact.

I would recommend this one highly, although not for children (or the squeamish :o ). Also it can get a bit confusing at episode 3 but don't dispair, it's worth watching the whole thing!

Petshop of Horrors

All i can say is: wow. This one amazed me. Also only 4 episodes long, it's like a small movie. Extremely enjoyable.

Count D, a chinese man and care taker of a small pet shop selling rare pets. People come to him for pets but end up going home with lost loved ones instead. Later on deifying the terms of the Counts contract things start to go wrong. A detective tries to arrest him but comes up with nothing, only becoming the Counts friend.

I do think they should extend this Anime. Who knows... the art style and story is still brilliant nonetheless. I loved it!

Happy Halloween! :3

11 Eyes

I still can't believe why this Anime had a rather low rating... It reminds me a bit of Silent Hill, the way it shifts between worlds, the darkness = the red night.

After losing his sister seven years ago, Kakeru led a vacant life, only able to return to normal with help from his childhood friend Yuka and other friends at school. Suddenly one day the sky turns red, and the moon turns black. Everyone around Kakeru and Yuka disappears and monsters start roaming the streets.

But just when they thought this world was a dream, the Red Night occurs again. Kakeru and Yuka manage to find four other humans involved in this mysterious phenomenon: Misuzu, a red-haired onmyouji swordswoman, Kukuri, a strange mute girl who looks like Kakeru's deceased sister, Yukiko, a lively young girl who reverts to the personality of a cold killer when her glasses are removed, and Takahisa, pyrokinetic.

They get together and try to survive, but six shadows suddenly appear in front of them.... These six shadows call themselves the "Black Knights," and for an unknown reason wish to kill Kakeru and friends. As they go on trying to survive, the six teenagers gradually form bonds and begin to work together in order to defeat the Black Knights, in the hopes that this will end the Red Night once and for all. More here.

I enjoyed this Anime, even thought it took a few episodes just to get into the story. It was different! Creepy monsters, cool fighting, what more could you ask for? The story could of used a little polishing but all in all really good to watch. :3

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

C, one of the best and highly underrated Animes that i have come across. It's in one word amazing.

Kimimaro, raised by his aunt after the disappearance of his father and the death of his mother, is a scholarship student whose only dream is to live a stable, ordinary life. One day he meets a man who offers him a large sum of money if he will allow his "future" to be held as collateral.
From then on his fate is radically altered as he's drawn into a mysterious realm known as the Financial District, where he must compete in weekly tournaments called "deals" in order to keep his money and avoid losing his future.

The world itself, the ever changing future.. all just fantastic. Even with a twisty ending that fits perfectly this has to be in my top 10.

5 Centimetres per Second & Pale Cocoon

5 centimetres per second

Short OVA/movie with 3 episodes (merged) running for 20mins each...

A love story. Somewhat refreshing, somewhat depressing... 5 centimetres per second is the speed of a cherry blossom petal falling to the earth,  petals being a metaphorical representation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways.

All 3 episodes revolve around Tono Takaki falling in love at the age of 13, growing up, school life and such.

I really enjoyed this. Not something i would normally go for.. but it was worth it.

Pale Cocoon

Now this little gem of an OVA i'm glad i came across. Running at only 23 mins long it makes a huge impact on sci-fi Anime.

Set in the very distant future when all of Earths knowledge is lost. Ura, who works with the Archive Excavation Department, discovers all this lost information. Living deep, deep underground.. not knowing what has happened in decades. One day he comes across a video file and after restoring it discovers the truth and what has really happened to Earth.

Can't say any more but watch it for yourself!

I did indeed think this was a brilliant idea.. they could of made a full length Anime out of it. Still worth a watch. :)

Spirited Away

More of a fairy tale than anything else and above all an amazing one. The most successful movie in Japanese history, passing Titanic by miles and probably the best animation film out there to date.

Ten-year-old Chihiro and her parents are moving when her father takes a wrong turn. Thinking that they have found an abandoned amusement park, her father insists on exploring and they cross the dry riverbed. While Chihiro's parents eat at a restaurant stall, Chihiro finds an exquisite bathhouse. After encountering a young boy, Haku, Chihiro is ordered to cross the river before sunset. She discovers that her parents have become pigs and is unable to cross the flooded river.

After finding Chihiro, Haku has her ask for a job from the bathhouse's boiler-man, Kamaji. Kamaji and the worker Lin send Chihiro to the witch Yubaba, who runs the bathhouse. Yubaba gives Chihiro a job but renames her Sen . While visiting her parents' pigpen, Sen finds a goodbye card addressed to Chihiro and realizes that she has already forgotten her name. Haku warns her that Yubaba controls people by taking their names and if she forgets hers like he has forgotten his, Chihiro cannot leave the spirit world. While working, Sen invites a silent masked creature named No-Face inside. More here.
Totally amazing story, characters.. everything. I believe every Anime fan should watch this. It's a roller-coaster...

Perfect Blue

This movie is seriously freaky and uncomfortable at times, it messes with your brain. All in all though i enjoyed it.

Lead singer of a j-pop band, Mima, decides to become an actress. Some of her fans are upset of this change and somebody creates a webpage pretending to be her. As her career gets better, people around her start getting murdered.

A slight Alfred Hitchcock aura to this and indeed rather psychological (so pay attention at all times!). Also a fantastic twist which no one knows was coming.

I would recommend Perfect Blue, although be advised its rather graphic, showing nudity and a ton of blood. Watch at own risk!
